Application of Monopack Sports Floors

Monopack Sports Floor Application of Monopack sports floor finish Solvent based version on new or bare timber.

Application Equipment: Apply Monopack Sports Floor Finish Solvent Based version in thin and even coats using a 6-10 mm roller. For large areas use a 460mm wide roller (E.G. Oldfields Cat. No. 602-18) on a yoke frame (E.G. Oldfields Cat. No. 662) and a 40Litre Nylex plastic storage crate as the roller bucket, or alternatively apply by means of a weighted bar fitted with a woven fabric cover.

Thinning and Clean Up: Thinning is not normally required for Monopack Sports Floor Finish Solvent Based Version, however the product may be thinned up to 5% with Mineral Turpentine for the first coat if desired.

Coverage: Coverage depends on thickness of application, and the porosity of the timber. The approximate coverage on sealed timber is 12 square metres per litre per coat.

Adhesion Testing: A cross hatch adhesion test is recommended if any doubts remain as to the suitability of the surface for re-coating. After carrying out cleaning and sanding as described above, select three or four areas on the floor, each 10cm x 10cm in size.

Application Guidlines:

1. After filling, carry out final sanding with #220 grit abrasive medium. Vacuum and sweep with lint free cloths lightly moistened with White Spirit for a dust free surface.

2. For ease of application and optimum drying rates, apply Monopack Sports Floor Finish Solvent Based Version at temperatures between 15° and 30° Celsius.

3. Apply Monopack Sports Floor Finish Solvent Based Version with a 6-10mm nap roller, or weighted bar. Drying time is 18-24 hours. In cold weather allow longer between coats.

4. Sand the entire floor with #220 grit sand screen disc, and follow with vacuum and sweep with lint free cloths moistened with White Spirits.

5. Apply the second coat of Monopack Sports Floor Finish Solvent Based Version. In cold weather allow 2 days between coats.

6. When previous coat is dry, sand with a worn #220 grit sand screen disc, vacuum and sweep as for previous coats.

7. Apply a third coat of Monopack Sports Floor Finish Solvent Based Version as per previous coat instructions.

8. Drying time before light foot traffic is 4 days. Full hardness takes 7 days.

Re-Coating of Monopack Sports Floors

Monopack Sports Floor Re-coating of floors previously coated with Monopack sports floor finish

Cleaning the Surface: Remove visible contaminants such as chewing gum, masking tape, food spills etc. By scraping. Wet scrub the floor using an auto scrubbing machine fitted with a vacuum recovery system, using a black nylon stripping pad, and charged with a solution of Monopack Re-Coating Cleaner in hot water as per label instructions.

Allow floor to dry. If any doubts remain as to the suitability of the surface for re-coating, carry out adhesion test patch tests.

Sanding: After cleaning as described above, the entire floor surface requires thorough sanding, using a rotary machine fitted with a vacuum recovery system. Typically 150 grit screen backs will be suitable, but if high intensity down lighting is present, then a finer grade of abrasive should be used to prevent incidence of scratch marks from being seen through the finished job.

The resulting surface needs to have an even matt appearance. Follow the sanding with thorough vacuuming or fresh water wet scrub to provide a dust free surface.

Adhesion Testing: A cross hatch adhesion test is recommended if any doubts remain as to the suitability of the surface for re-coating. After carrying out cleaning and sanding as described above, select three or four areas on the floor, each 10cm x 10cm in size.

Apply a coat of Monopack Sports Floor Finish to the test areas and allow to dry for 24 hours. Then with a sharp knife score six parallel lines 1 mm apart on the test areas. At 90 degrees to these scored lines, score six more at 1mm apart to form a cross hatch pattern. Using 3M Magic Tape, lay a strip across the cross hatch and press down and rub firmly. Pull the tape firmly at 90° to the floor surface. No transference of the coating to the tape indicates good adhesion.

Application: Apply one or more coats of Monopack Sports Floor Finish with a 6-10mm nap roller, all in accordance with all label instructions, allow 18-24 hours between coats, and sand with a light 220 grit sanding if required.

The recommended drying time before light foot traffic is 4 days. Full hardness takes 7 days.

Care And Maintenance Guidlines

Monopack Sports Floor Care Á Maintenance Guidlines.

Preliminary: If you have chosen the Monopack Sports Floor System. You are now equipped with a restored/new performance floor and in order for you to get the most out of it, we recommend that these guidelines be followed.
Initially the surfaced has a high sheen, but as it settles down, and is subjected to games use, an even low sheen patina develops. This is normal and provides an excellent playing surface with good grip and good visibility without reflected glare.

Slip Hazards: Slip hazards can occur on sealed timber floors when dust and body fats build up. Dust from internal unpainted brickwork and from external sources is a major problem. Regular washing is necessary to remove contaminant build up. Dust and dirt from external sources must be controlled by placement of appropriate matting in all doorways and accompanied by daily sweeping of the floor. Failure to prevent ingress of dust and dirt will also damage the floor surface. Equipment and chairs used on the floor should be fitted with rubber floor protectors.

Dust Control Matting: Dust control matting is essential for all entrances. Nomad Plus is recommended. It should be taken outside daily and shaken to remove loose dirt and then vacuumed. At least once per week the matting should be hung vertically and washed with running water from a garden hose.

Daily Sweeping: The entire floor area requires sweeping at least once per day. The most practical method is to use scissor mops fitted with clean acrylic fringes.

Cleaning the Floor:Wash weekly or more frequently with Monopack Sports Floor Cleaner to maintain optimum grip factor and prolong the life of the coating. Use a solution of one (1) part Monopack Sports Floor Cleaner to one hundred (100) parts warm (not hot) water. The damage to timber floors caused by water is well known and it is important to ensure a minimum amount of water be allowed to remain in contact with the floor. Use an automatic scrubber fitted with a vacuum/squeegee attachment, or a damp mop, provided that excess liquid is squeezed from the mop.
Remove black scuff marks with Monopack Spray On-Wipe Off Cleaner.
Do not use wax or emulsion polishes on Monopack sealed floors, as they alter the grip factor and make the surface unsuitable for the application of further maintenance coats of Monopack Sports Floor Finish.
We do not recommend the old practice of “kerosene wiping” of sports floors.

Annual Maintenance:To maintain surface in optimum condition apply an extra coat of Monopack Sports Floor Finish each year. We can arrange to have this work done for you by experienced operators.
